"So Dix, whatda say, will you go out with me?" Johnny asked, a lop sided grin appearing on his face.

Dixie smiled and shook her head. "Johnny Gage..."

"What?"

"You know how I feel about..."

"What?"

"Dating colleagues," Dixie replied seriously. "Besides, I'm a lot older than you," she added as a matter of fact.

"But Dix, like I said before, it's not really a date date. It's just..."

"I know, two people, who've known each other for a long time attending a function, together."

"Exactly."

"Then you don't expect me to..."

"Who, me?" Johnny replied, his hand spayed on his chest and a surprised look on his face. "Come on Dix. You should know me by now."

Dixie smiled,"Yes, Johnny. I do know you. Have you forgotten who you're talking to. I've heard all the..."

"Dix, I'd never...I mean...you're a friend...a good friend...a best friend. I couldn't...I wouldn't..."

"So, then this will just be like two friends...good friends...best friends...going out to a function, together."

"Exactly."

"I don't know. You might end up with the wrong idea afterwards." Dixie replied shaking her head.

"What kind of wrong idea?" Johnny asked.

"Well, what if you want to go out a second time...a third time...and then...suddenly you think we are an item?"

"Okay. Okay. I get the picture," Johnny replied. "I promise, I won't get the wrong idea. We're just good friends...very good friends...who will be going out to a function, together."

"So, you do understand that if I accept, this will be nothing more than a couple good friends getting together to attend a function?"

"Exactly."

"Good, 'cause I really don't want to break your heart."

"You really do care about me, don't you Dix."

"Of course I do Johnny. You're special. I've always cared about you...and Roy...and Dwyer...and..."

"Okay, Dix. I get the picture."

"Do you?"

"Yes, so will you go out with me?" Johnny asked grinning.
