Challenge # 10 by Jean

It was a cold and rainy day in normally sunny California, but Johnny Gage didn't care. He was in a grrrrrreat mood and was actually looking forward to going to work.

As he got out the Land Roover, he looked over by the hose tower and said a cheery good morning to the sparrows that were taking their morning bath in the growing puddle. In response, the happy birds ruffled their feathers in the water and flipped their tail feathers at the paramedic. Johnny giggled, opened the door and entered the kitchen of Station 51.

Once inside, he quickly took a bear claw from the plate of donuts and munched on it as he took the time to start a fresh pot of coffee. Johnny smiled as the aroma started to assult his senses. He shoved the rest of the bear claw into his mouth, giggling again as he thought how much it did NOT look like an actual bear claw. He was still giggling and chewing as he
walked through the locker room doors to join the rest of the crew.

Okay, the challenge...... why was Johnny so happy? Will he stay happy for the whole shift? or will something happen to change his mood? Will it be a 'bad' something happening to him or one of the guys or a victim? Will it be a 'good' something that only adds to his great day?

Finish the story and let us all know!

Challenge #11

It's the Fourth of July and A Shift is off.  Roy invited his crewmates over for his yearly barbecue.  Everyone is looking forward to Roy's party, as they all help out and bring stuff.  But this year is different.  This year, the crew of 51 will have to come to terms with what the Fourth of July means to them.  Here's part of the dialogue you should incorporate into the story at some place:

"I never thought I'd use my American flag that way."  Roy said to Hank, as he wrung his hands waiting in Rampart's emergency waiting room..

"Roy, you had no choice.  It was the only fabric around and you had to stop the bleeding somehow."  His captain replied softly, trying to comfort his friend and coworker.

"I know but..."

"No buts Roy.  Your actions saved his life."

Roy shook his head.  "I'll never think of this holiday the same way again, Hank."  The red in the flag will always have Johnny's blood on it."

Soooooo  that's your story challenge.  A Johnny owie.  Have fun and good luck.

Challenge #12

The squad and engine 51 crash into each other.  It could be as simple as a scratch, to an all out Owiefest.  So what would Mike do if Roy scratched the engine?  Or what would Charley do if both trucks were dented?  If you choose to do an Owiefest, what are the ramifications of the accident?  Are they afraid to ride in their vehicles?  Does someone quit, blaming themself for causing pain and suffering to their coworkers?

Challenge #15

At the end of
Fools, Dr. Kent Donaldson goes back with Roy and John for the overnight shift.  I always thought that episode should have shown a night rescue so the good doctor would truly appreciate what all firefighters and paramedics do.

Donaldson: "...no, to tell you the truth you guys, I'm really sorry the day's over."

Roy: "Well, you know if you wanna go on another run with us there's a extra bed that's still available."

Johnny: "Yeah, you get a totally different perspective at four in the mornin'."

Donaldson: "Okay, you're on."

Johnny: "All right, let's go."

What does happen at 4am?

Create a rescue or two that really shows Dr Donaldson what a fireman's life is like.

Have as many owies as you want, but don't kill off anyone!

Challenge 16

Trainee

An alternate story thought comes to mind.

We all know Ed Marlowe's personality.  In the sequence where Roy, John and Ed go to the rescue on the cliff, we know that Johnny and the bio-phone take a tumble.  What if Johnny couldn't stop his fall and he and the bio-phone
REALLY take a tumble down the slope.

Roy's in a quandary.  He realizes Johnny is injured, but also sees the first victim is badly injured.  He decides to have Ed check on Johnny who isn't moving.

How badly hurt is Johnny?  How does Ed treat Johnny?  Are there any complications that occur as a result of Ed's decisions.  Remember the bio-phone won't work from their location so life and death decisions have to be made on the spot for all of them.

Who is Mary Sue?

Here is what another author,
inkling,  wrote describing Mary Sue.

"Briefly she is the appearance of the author in a fanfic, identifiable by her perky disposition, her perky breasts, and her perky hair. She upstages the story, steals the show along with all male characters' hearts, and saves the day.  In a truly wonderful MarySue fic, she will die a martyr's death at the end, saving everyone's life, and in a perfect world, leave the hero with an adorable child or two to raise in her memory.  In an E!fic she'd rescue Johnny, Roy and Chet, save Marco and Captain's lives, and give Mike pointers on driving the engine--and he'd be grateful for her insight. MarySue doesn't have to be female; Wesley Crusher, of Star Trek the Next Generation, was a wonderful example of a "Marty Sue".  Mary Sue also makes appearances as JohnnySue, or BlairySue, or GarySue, depending on your fandom, when the author writes the protagonist in her own image instead of the familiar one we all know and love."

Don't worry if the Rover moves...It's suppose to!    -.ed
